Randall is an "Allergy Aware" school

Children are not allowed to share food with other children.....all children.  Please reinforce this with your 5th grader.  Thank you!!

Attendance/Vacations/Leaving early/Coming late....Please read

Randall attendance rates need improvement and we need our students in our class each and every day. This is a goal that we as a staff are going to be looking at this year and work to improve.

We were asked to remind families that if your child is going to be:

  • leaving early
  • coming late
  • missing days due to illness
  • missing days for vacations/religious holidays/family obligations/etc
PLEASE  input this information in the attendance system using the link below.
In addition, it is helpful to inform your child's classroom teacher.  We are not automatically informed.  Your support on this is greatly appreciated :)

Attendance

  • If your child is going to be absent or late for school, please call the Randall attendance line at 608.204.3306 or fill out the online form below by 8:00 am.

  • Student number and Infinite Campus Parent Portal username and password are required to report absences via the online form.

Track your child's bus and location

FirstView Transportation App - Student number is required to track their student(s).

FirstView provides location data via GPS tracking and sends notification alerts when a student’s bus is getting close. It can be used to track all of the students in a household/associated with a caregiver account. It’s the easiest and fastest way to get answers to questions like, “When will the bus show up?” and “How can I see when my child will be picked up or dropped off?”

Visitor Aware--Please read and be "aware"

If you are planning to work at Randall as a volunteer or helping out for any reason,  there is a new system in the office to document who is in the building.  The process will be much easier if you remember to bring your driver's license, but not needed.  Just be aware this will take a few extra minutes.  Thank you for understanding.

Visitor Aware to Enhance Building Security, Improve School Visitor Check-in Process

The software, which will be used in main offices and welcome centers across the district, is designed to streamline how visitors enter MMSD spaces.

New News
  • Here is our shameless plea to all parents/guardians.  We don't take many field trips during the year, but if things come up at the last minute and for the end of the year all day trip we really count on parents joining us.  If you think you might even consider this, please do the volunteer training now so we are not scrambling at the end of the year.  Here is the link to get going.  The training is good for only one year.  After that, you do need to re-apply, but it is a simple process after the first round of training.  Thank you!!  Volunteering Link
  • Please remember to sign and return the Digital Device Agreement form to school.
  • Students will need headphones and a computer mouse at school.  Please send this in as soon as you can--Thanks!
  • This is our weekly blog where we will update what we did that week, post information for families, update calendar events and other important information.  An updated blog will be posted every Friday.
  • If you are ever looking for past information, you will have access to all of our posts throughout the year.

Oldie, but Goodies
  • This is a spot for information that families may still need.
  • Food Service Menus can also be found at the following link - Menus
Math
  • This week the 5th grade math class was introduced to our first unit on Expressions, Equations and Volume.  Most classes also took the beginning of the year math screener on Friday.  The remaining students will take this next week.
  • Our Number Corner this month will focus on making connections between numbers written as fractions and decimals and start our work with volume in tangible and strategic ways.
Literacy this week
  • We will be jumping right into our first EL unit of the year based on Stories of Human Rights this coming Monday.  We will be using a variety of texts.  Our main texts will be the book Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan and an abridged version of  the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We will be focusing on finding the gist of the text and expressing our learning in verbal and written communication.
  • This week we did some fluency screenings, a reading screener and a variety of "Get to Know Me" activities with our new classmates.
Science
  • Our first unit will be on Patterns of Earth and Sky as we answer the question:
Why do we see stars at different times?
  • Our first chapter will focus on :  Why don't we see a lot of stars in daytime?
SELS/Health lessons
  • Community building
  • Universal practices
  • Healthy habits

Interested in volunteering at Randall or chaperoning a field trip with your student's class? - start the process by visiting the Volunteering page at MMSD’s website.

Please contact the office if you need to get a message to your child!!!!

Hello all!

If you need to get a message to your child during the day please contact the office.  All 5th grade teachers do not have any afternoon breaks where they are guaranteed to check their emails for messages from families.  Therefore, if it is an emergent message that they must receive by the end of the day, you really need to contact the office directly.  The number is (608) 204-3300

Thank you!
