  • There will not be an new blog post (Week 13) due to the Fall Break.  Week 14 will be updated on December 6th.
  • If your 5th grader is going to have a planned absence, you will need to fill out an online form. Please remember to email your 5th grader's teacher as well.  Thank you!
  • If you think you might want to join us on any of the second semester field trips, please consider completing the Level 2 volunteer training/re-enrolling your Level 2 status when you are contacted.  Every year we are in a scramble trying to families to complete the training in time.  Why stress?  Here is the information.

Math
  • This week we started Unit 3.  We actually started the unit by reviewing some fraction work.  Then we looked for patterns when multiplying and dividing by 10.  We reviewed place value and then started to write, compare, order, add and subtract decimals. 
  • Our November Number Corner will focus on identifying and classifying triangles, coordinate grids and ordered pairs and working with metric conversions!!  (Short month, but very busy.)
  • Our December Number Corner will be focused on reviewing and adding to our knowledge and understanding of quadrilaterals.  In addition, we will continue to collect, graph, organize and analyze data, but we will have another set of data.  We will be using student height and feet length!  
Literacy this week
  • This week we finished our revisions, rehearsed and presented our monologues to the class!  Module 1 is complete and we will begin Module 2 the first week in December.
  • Next week we will take advantage of the short week and do a little creative writing. 
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.  
Science 
  • Our second unit will be on Ecosystem Restoration as we answer the question: How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?

  • Our first chapter will focus on : Why aren't the jaguars and slots growing and thriving?

Family Math Night--Tuesday, December 3rd

      


The leadership at Randall Elementary and Franklin Elementary Schools are excited to be partnering with Dr. Erin Edgington’s Math Methods classes to bring you Family Math Night!


Come and join us for an evening filled with fun and challenging math games you can do together and TAKE HOME math activities so the fun continues!

Badger Rock Middle School Important Information

 Dear Families of 5th Grade Students,

It is hard to believe that it is time to start planning for your scholar’s transition to middle school! Badger Rock is an optional middle school choice for students residing in Madison, regardless of high school attendance area. Enrollment priority will be given to siblings of students currently attending Badger Rock who will continue to attend as 7th or 8th graders next year as long as you apply during the lottery window.  Each year 40 students are selected.

 

Following Winter Break, on January 10th at 5:30 pm, Principal Joey Rosas and our staff will be hosting an in-person open house & CommUNITY Dinner with Rooted for potential incoming 6th-grade parents & students; all are welcome to attend to learn more about our school & neighborhood.

Estimadas familias de estudiantes de 5to grado,

¡Es difícil creer que ya es hora de comenzar a planificar la transición de su hijo/a a la escuela secundaria! Badger Rock es una opción de escuela secundaria para estudiantes que residen en Madison, independientemente del área de asistencia a la preparatoria. Se dará prioridad de inscripción a los hermanos de los estudiantes que actualmente asisten a Badger Rock y que continuarán asistiendo como estudiantes de 7° y 8° grado el próximo año, siempre que presenten su solicitud durante el período de lotería. Cada año se seleccionan 40 estudiantes.

Después de las vacaciones de invierno, el 10 de enero a las 5:30pm, el director Joey Rosas y nuestro personal organizará una Jornada de Puertas Abiertas en nuestra escuela y una cena comunitaria proporcionada por la organización Rooted para los posibles padres y estudiantes que ingresan al 6° grado; todos están invitados a asistir para aprender más sobre nuestra escuela y vecindario.

  • This week we continued on our monologue work.  Groups worked together to take notes on their scenario.  Individually, they created a monologue based on the notes, but from the perspective of a character in that scenario.  For their mid-unit assessment, students wrote their first draft of the monologue.  Finally, we began the revision process by making sure our monologue has concrete language and sensory details.  We will continue revise and edit next week.
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.  
Science 
We will continue with our second unit in science the week of November 18th. Our next unit will be Ecosystem Restoration.
