New News
- Please make sure your 5th grader has headphones to use in class this year.
Oldie, but Goodies
- Food Service Menus can also be found at the following link - Menus
- Here is our shameless plea to all parents/guardians. We don't take many field trips during the year, but if things come up at the last minute and for the end of the year all day trip we really count on parents joining us. If you think you might even consider this, please do the volunteer training now so we are not scrambling at the end of the year. Here is the link to get going. The training is good for only one year. After that, you do need to re-apply, but it is a simple process after the first round of training. Thank you!! Volunteering Link
- Please remember to sign and return the Digital Device Agreement form to school.
Math
- This week the 5th grade math class continue to work in our first unit on Expressions, Equations and Volume.
- This week we reviewed and worked with factors to find multiples and jumped right into volume. Volume will continue to be a topic that is revisited frequently this year. We also worked with some strategies to help us such as "doubling and halving"/
- Next week we will continue with volume and more strategies to help us.
- Our Number Corner this month will focus on making connections between numbers written as fractions and decimals and start our work with volume in tangible and strategic ways.
Literacy this week
- We will be jumping right into our first EL unit of the year based on Stories of Human Rights this coming Monday. We will be using a variety of texts. Our main texts will be the book Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan and an abridged version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We will be focusing on finding the gist of the text and expressing our learning in verbal and written communication.
- This week we previewed the learning and end projects for this unit. We also started reading our book and focused on describing/understanding vocabulary words. In addition, we spent a lot of time figuring out the "gist" of what we have read to check for comprehension.
- For ALL Block, we are working on learning routines and purpose for our literacy time. We are also learning how to work together in small groups and independently while meeting 5th grade expectations.
Science
- Our first unit will be on Patterns of Earth and Sky as we answer the question:
Why do we see stars at different times?
- Our first chapter will focus on : Why don't we see a lot of stars in daytime?
SELS/Health lessons
- Community Building Safety and Belonging
- Healthy Me/Well Me
