New News
  • Welcome Back!!!

  • We had a tornado drill on Tuesday in the gym.

Oldie, but Goodies
  • The winter screening window opens now through the end of January.  This means we will be administering our math and literacy screener to assess how our students are doing on math and reading skills.  After screening is complete for our class, I will send home the screening results OR this information will be shared in your child's report card comments.

Txoj kev tshuaj ntsuam txog kev kawm ntawm lub caij hnuj no tau qhib kom mus txog rau lub ib hli tas. Math
  • In Unit 4, we will be working on multiplication and division strategies that will lead us to using the multiplication algorithm and using multiplication to help us divide.
  • Our January Number Corner will be focused on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions and decimals.  In addition, we will be analyzing and comparing patterns, graphing ordered pairs and writing expressions/equations to represent patterns,
Literacy this week
  • This week we used a variety of texts about how we can help save the rainforests.  We read, discussed, took notes and wrote summaries as a class, with a partner and individually.  All this work led to another science talk with our peers.
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
Science
  • Our second unit will be on Ecosystem Restoration as we answer the question: How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?

  • Our first chapter will focus on : Why aren't the jaguars and slots growing and thriving?
  • Our second chapter will focus on : Why aren't the cecropia trees growing and thriving?
  • Our third chapter will focus on : Why aren't the cecropia trees growing and thriving in the soil?

SELS/Health lessons
  • What Do I Stand For?
  • Decisions,Substances and You!
