- In preparation for our student led conferences in April, we will be collecting "evidence of student work" for them to discuss with you. Therefore, you may not be seeing as much work coming home, but you will receive all of it at their conferences. Sign Up Genius for these conferences will come in early March.
Math
- This week we started Unit 5. This week we worked with strategies for multiplying fractions using models and used these strategies to solve story problems.
- Next week we will focus on multiplying fractions by fractions using models and strategies.
- Our February Number Corner will be focused on finding the area of objects using multiplication of fractions. In addition, we will work with the metric system as we measure, convert milliliters to liters, record our findings, make predictions for liquid measurement.
- Our March Number Corner will be focused on area of objects using multiplication of decimals. In addition, each week we will be gathering data of pencil lengths, placing the data in a line plot, analyzing data and making predictions.
Literacy this week
- We worked in Module 2 Unit 3. This week students planned for, created, wrote and revised a non-fiction narrative story based on our text by Kathryn Lasky. They will finish up this work next week. Students will also work on an independent slideshow based on rainforest books they are reading.
- For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
Social Studies
- Students shared and made recommendations about the books they what they read over the past few weeks during our Author's Tea today.
Science--Starting Next Week!!
- Our third unit will be on Modeling Matter as we answer the question: What happens when two substances are mixed together?
- Our first chapter will focus on : Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?
- Our second chapter will focus on : Why do some salad dressings have sediments and others do not?
- Our third chapter will focus on : Why can salad dressing ingredients separate again after being mixed?
