Math
  • We picked right back up with Unit 6 this week.  We finished up some work on coordinate grids, ordered pairs and looking for patterns.  Then,  we moved into the next module on classifying triangles and quadrilaterals.
  • Next week we will finish classifying polygons and revisit how to find the volume of a prism........again :)
  • Our April Number Corner will be focused on some review of volume, fractions and  decimals.
Literacy this week
  • We are currently in Unit 2 of Module 3.  We will be answering the questions "How have athletes broken barriers during the historical era in which they lived?" and "What factors can contribute to an individual's success in changing society?"
  • This week we focused on comparing and contrasting point of views from multiple texts on Jackie Robinson and students wrote some short answers to show our understanding.  Then, we started thinking about our own opinion on the factors that led to Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier.  After some small group discussions, we are prepped to start planning for our essay.
  • Next week, each student will plan, find evidence, formulate their opinion statement and begin working on their end of unit essay.  They will be working on this for the next two weeks.
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
Science--

Our third unit will be on Modeling Matter as we answer the question: What happens when two substances are mixed together?

  • Our first chapter will focus on : Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?
  • Our second chapter will focus on : Why do some salad dressings have sediments and others do not?
  • Our third chapter will focus on : Why can salad dressing ingredients separate again after being mixed?

SELS/Health lessons
  • No SELS/Health Lesson this week
  • Randall Way Video for April is shared in your 5th grader's Google Classroom.  Our April goal is 1,250 paws by being an ALLY to try and earn an extra recess in May.  Our March goal was 1,00  paws to try and earn a Dance Party in April---TBD if it was earned.
