New News
  • Please consider joining us for our upcoming field trips as a chaperone.
Thursday, June 5th--All day field trip to Lake Kegonsa
Wednesday, June 11th-- 11:00 am-2:00 pm Vilas Park

In order for Thursday, June 5th to be a success, we need as many parent volunteers as possible.  More parents allow for smaller groups and flexibility for everyone.  If you are able, we would appreciate any help on June 5th.

In order for you to be a chaperone, you will need to be approved for Level 2 volunteering tasks which involves a background check.  I recognize this can be an inconvenience, but unless we have you on our Level 2 approved list, we can not allow you to join us........  start the process by visiting the
Volunteering page at MMSD’s website.

Oldie, but Goodies

Math
  • We finished our work with volume this week.
  • Next week we will work with area multiplying fractions and decimals, review the whole unit and take an assessment for Unit 6.
  • Unit 7 will be on Division of fractions and whole numbers.
  • After Unit 7 we will reflect on the areas of the 5th grade curriculum that might need a bit more review and that will take us to the end of the year :)
  • Our April Number Corner will be focused on some review of volume, fractions and  decimals.
  • Our May Number Corner will be focused on ordered pairs/graphing skills and converting liquid measurement from customary units to metric units.
Literacy this week
  • This week we finished up our opinion essays.
  • Next week we will start Unit 3 of Module 3.  We will be answering the question "How have athletes broken barriers during the historical era in which they lived?"

  • This will be our LAST unit of this module!!
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.

Our third unit will be on Modeling Matter as we answer the question: What happens when two substances are mixed together?

  • Our first chapter will focus on : Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?
  • Our second chapter will focus on : Why do some salad dressings have sediments and others do not?
  • Our third chapter will focus on : Why can salad dressing ingredients separate again after being mixed?
  • We finished our Modeling Matter unit this week.
  • After social studies, we will take some time to do our Human Growth and Development for 5th grade.
  • After Human Growth and Development, we will begin our last science unit--Earth Systems
