Thursday, June 5th--All day field trip to Lake Kegonsa
Wednesday, June 11th-- 11:00 am-2:00 pm Vilas Park
In order for Thursday, June 5th to be a success, we need as many parent volunteers as possible. More parents allow for smaller groups and flexibility for everyone. If you are able, we would appreciate any help on June 5th.
In order for you to be a chaperone, you will need to be approved for Level 2 volunteering tasks which involves a background check. I recognize this can be an inconvenience, but unless we have you on our Level 2 approved list, we can not allow you to join us........ start the process by visiting the Volunteering page at MMSD’s website.
Math
- Unit 7 focus is on division of fractions and whole numbers.
- After Unit 7 we will reflect on the areas of the 5th grade curriculum that might need a bit more review and that will take us to the end of the year :)
- Our May Number Corner will be focused on ordered pairs/graphing skills and converting liquid measurement from customary units to metric units.
Literacy this week
- This week we continued with Module 3 Unit 3. We will be answering the question "How have athletes broken barriers during the historical era in which they lived?"
- In Unit 3, we will be comparing various athletes that broke some type of a barrier. We will compare and contrast the factors that led these athletes to break a social barrier with what we have learned about Jackie Robinson.
- This week worked hard to finish our Compare and Contrast Essay.
- Next week, we will work on our final projects where we will create some posters that express our learning.
- This will be our LAST unit of this module!!
- For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
Social Studies--
- We continued and finished up mini-unit for social studies this week on the Ojibway.
- We used the text The Mishomis Book--The Voice of the Ojibway written by Edward Benton-Benai.
- We learned about their migration story and how it connects to northern Wisconsin.
Social Studies/Science
- Next week we will take time to do our Human Growth and Development lessons for 5th grade.
