Please update your emergency contact information!! We are sending home a form today that will give you three options on how to do this.
It looks like we are starting to deplete our Cheerios stash for snack time. If you are able and willing, we would appreciate your donations of Cheerios (no flavored kinds....just plain) or similar off brands. Thank you!!!
Please check your email or see separate post about our Black History Month project and Author's Tea Sign-up.
Valentine's Day will be on the same day as our Author's Tea. We will find time for the 5th grader's to pass out valentines to their peers. This is OPTIONAL. We just ask that if your 5th grader brings valentines that they bring one for everyone in the class. Your 5th grader's teacher will send a list of names if your kiddo would like to participate. Thanks!
No School on Monday, January 27th for grade reporting day for teachers
As a school, Randall is doing a "RESET" on our behavior expectations. Please talk to your 5th grader about how they are doing personally. Thanks!
Please make sure your 5th grader has warm outdoor clothing and/or let us know if you need help with this.
- This week in Unit 4, we worked our way to the multiplication algorithm. This is a 5th grade standard that we will continue to practice and perfect.
- Today we took a math screener for the district to see how we are doing with our 5th grade standards so far.
- Next week we will continue on our algorithm. Then we will begin our last module where we use multiplication to help us divide.
- Our January Number Corner will be focused on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions and decimals. In addition, we will be analyzing and comparing patterns, graphing ordered pairs and writing expressions/equations to represent patterns.
- Our February Number Corner will be focused on finding the area of objects using multiplication of fractions. In addition, we will work with the metric system as we measure, convert milliliters to liters, record our findings, make predictions for liquid measurement.
- This week we continued in Module 2 Unit 2 in our EL curriculum. We continued to find, discuss and explain figurative language that we are finding in multiple rainforest texts.
- We also worked to compare and contrast our finding across multiple texts.
- For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
- Our second unit on Ecosystem Restoration we answered the question: How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?
- Our first chapter will focus on : Why aren't the jaguars and slots growing and thriving?
- Our second chapter will focus on : Why aren't the cecropia trees growing and thriving?
- Our third chapter will focus on : Why aren't the cecropia trees growing and thriving in the soil?
- Even though our social studies is mainly embedded within our literacy learning, we will be taking a break from science starting next week (Week of January 27) to do some work around Black History Month. This will end with an author's tea (sharing time) about some books they will be reading by African American authors.
- Be on the "look out" for a Sign-Up Genius if you would be willing to donate some paper goods/treats/juice boxes.
- More info will be coming to you soon.
- We will engage in our second mini-unit on Native Americans after our next science unit.
- Decision Making Unit Review
- Randall Way Video for January is shared in your 5th grader's Google Classroom. We did NOT meet our December goal, so we are hoping that we can roll in a pajama day along with our stuffy/read in day in February if we meet our goal for January. Our January goal is 1,250 paws to try and earn a Stuffy/Read In Day in February.
