New News
  • It looks like we are starting to deplete our Cheerios stash for snack time. If you are able and willing, we would appreciate your donations of Cheerios (no flavored kinds....just plain) or similar off brands. Thank you!!!
Oldie, but Goodies
  • Valentine's Day will be on the same day as our Author's Tea. We will find time for the 5th grader's to pass out valentines to their peers. This is OPTIONAL. We just ask that if your 5th grader brings valentines that they bring one for everyone in the class. Your 5th grader's teacher will send a list of names if your kiddo would like to participate. Thanks!
  • Please update your emergency contact information!! We are sending home a form today that will give you three options on how to do this.

  • Please check your email or see separate post about our Black History Month project and Author's Tea Sign-up.

Math
  • This week in Unit 4, we continued our work multiplication algorithm.  This is a 5th grade standard that we will continue to practice and perfect.  We finished up with this work and made the transition to division of whole numbers using a variety of strategies.
  • Next week we will do some more work with division, review this unit and take an assessment.
  • Unit 5 will be on multiplying and dividing with fractions.
  • Our January Number Corner will be focused on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions and decimals.  In addition, we will be analyzing and comparing patterns, graphing ordered pairs and writing expressions/equations to represent patterns.
  • Our February Number Corner will be focused on finding the area of objects using multiplication of fractions.  In addition, we will work with the metric system as we measure, convert milliliters to liters, record our findings, make predictions for liquid measurement.
Literacy this week
  • This week we continued in Module 2 Unit 2 in our EL curriculum.  We worked on our literary essay about concrete language and sensory details.
  • Next week we will finish our essay and begin Unit 3 in Module 2. This unit will lead to our final project on rainforests.
  • For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
Science---Our third unit of study will be on Modeling Matter and will begin the week of February 17th.

Social Studies (Black History Month)
  • We are reading and discussing books by African American authors with our reading partners.
  • We are looking forward to sharing our books with one another at our Author's Tea on Friday, February 14th.
SELS/Health lessons
  • Exploring Healthy Routines
  • Randall Way Video for January is shared in your 5th grader's Google Classroom.  We did NOT meet our December goal, so we are hoping that we can roll in a pajama day along with our stuffy/read in day in February if we meet our goal for January. Our January goal is 1,250  paws to try and earn a Stuffy/Read In Day in February.
