- Forward Testing Schedule:
Hello families of Strings students,
As we get closer to the Big Event, I wanted to remind you of details:
All 5th and 6th grade Strings players in the West attendance area will be playing in this huge and impressive orchestra camp! I understand that students are busy and can have conflicts. I hope that your child can experience this terrific culmination of their hard work.
Reminder of dates and times:
- Drop off: Saturday, March 15th - arrive for tuning at 3:00. Violins and violas will be dropped off and picked up on Ash Street at the Welcome Center. Cellos and Basses will be dropped off and picked up on Regent Street at the Athletic Entrance. I highly suggest parking your car and walking your student to the door, and picking them up the same way. There will be 100's of families and cars - traffic congestion will be an issue and it would probably be less stressful to park and walk - let's plan on beautiful weather!
Here is a link to the entrance maps. There will be many volunteers and signs to help your student find the correct entrance (follow the crowds with instrument cases) and more volunteers once they are inside the high school.
The performance will finish around 5:00. Please park your car and walk to the drop off/pick up site for your student and wait for them there. They will be exiting the building around 5:10pm.
- There is no dress code for the camp, but I encourage students to dress for success. I discourage high heels due to climbing the bleachers and going up and down stairs.
- Please do not send valuables with your students.
- Bass players will need to bring their bass and bow from home.
- I will not be available on Saturday to get any instruments locked inside a building, so please make sure your student brings their instrument home by Friday at the latest.
Thank you for reading to the end! Please contact me if you have questions (include your child's school and classroom teacher in the email). I will stay until every child is picked up. You can reach me at (608)285-2125 if you need to get a hold of me.
This is going to be great!

- This week we finished, reviewed and took the Unit 5 assessment.
- Next week we will begin Unit 6. This will be a mixture of graphing with ordered pairs, classifying polygons and, once again.....volume :)
- Our March Number Corner will be focused on area of objects using multiplication of decimals. In addition, each week we will be gathering data of pencil lengths, placing the data in a line plot, analyzing data and making predictions.
- Our April Number Corner will be focused on some review of volume, fractions and decimals.
- This week continued to read and write summaries on the chapters in our text is Promises to Keep written by Sharon Robinson. The book is about her father, Jackie Robinson. We also completed the first unit in this module!
- We also had many discussions about what characteristics are necessary for those people who are working for social change.
- For ALL Block, we continue to work with vocabulary words, writing responses to our reading and fluency work.
- Our first chapter will focus on : Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?
- Our second chapter will focus on : Why do some salad dressings have sediments and others do not?
- Our third chapter will focus on : Why can salad dressing ingredients separate again after being mixed?
